Weirdo 8"ers

Spy Kisses
Both 8" dogs and the 12" dog were being weird tonight. Spy and the 12" Pap in class couldn't do a DW to save their life, and the other 8" Pap/Peke mix was just plain in lala land. Every body else had their heads screwed on straight. Just the midget widget dogs having brain farts all night. The stuff that Spy did do though, was brilliant!

The white circles were first. The weave entry was tough. Keeping them off the DW wasn't too tough, but all the dogs had trouble seeing the weaves and were blowing past the entry. Spy did so several times before getting it right. She did much better if I sent her ahead to the poles rather than move forward towards them as I cued them. It really seemed to be a problem with even SEEING the poles in this scenario. Off the teeter, I tried a landing side front on the next jump to send her into the tunnel, then run across the back side of the tunnel to rear cross 10. Um, the first time through, Spy jumped on TOP of the tunnel... and wouldn't get OFF! She hasn't done that in a loooong time. She makes me giggle. She was very proud of herself. Then she was having BIG issues with the dogwalk that direction. Several blatant jumps and high hits. Going the other direction on the next course she was fine, but I also left out my "Run it" command on the second course. I don't think she needs it and maybe it's just distracting? I don't think I've been using the command lately and her DW's have been just fine.

The black circles weren't too tough. Rear cross at 6, either send the dog into the weaves and try to do a push at the end (the first time through I was a little extreme in how far across the front of the weaves I got and Spy popped out at 10) or rear cross them. I didn't think Spy was skilled enough to allow me do that severe of a rear cross. I think Marron could though.

Mary's been keeping courses simple the past few weeks since Deb and Belle are heading to Nationals next week. Keeping it simple to build their confidence, but still testing some needed skills. Belle looked AWESOME tonight! They may not be finals material, but damn, they definitely belong there!

I was a lazy dog owner today. I originally planned to stop at the park on my way home from work in the morning, but the park I wanted to go to had the gates closed. Must not be open for the season yet. Instead of going to the other one, I just came home and went to bed. Now come to find out it's going to snow the next two days. Dammit!
